Caring for Wood Bowls
Most Zenwood bowls are finished with bees wax, walnut oil or mineral oil. If used as display pieces, the finish will last for many years.
Waxed bowls are best used for fruit or other dry displays as the wax will wash off in hot water.
Oiled bowls may be rinsed briefly in warm, soapy water and dried. If the finish dulls with frequent use, you may re-oil with walnut or mineral oil (available at your local hardware store). Apply a small quantity with a cloth and buff off the excess. Do not use for food until completely dry.
If you have purchased a bowl made of cocobolo or yew, please note that these woods are NOT safe for moist foods (eg salads) but are fine for fruit (e.g. apples, oranges, bananas), nuts, wrapped candies, etc. Fantastic just for display to show off the beautiful woods.
Since finishes and applications vary, don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
